“You don't have to be off your rocker to ‘rock,' ” says music promoter Shaun Pilot, commenting on his current charge, 26-year-old Jordan John, who has just signed an historic five-album deal with legendary Canadian producer David Foster, the new chairman of Verve Records.
The vocalist/multi-instrumentalist John was first brought to Foster's attention through footage of John opening for Aretha Franklin at last summer's TD Toronto Jazz Festival with thousands in attendance. “Jordan delivered,” says Patrick Taylor, co-founder and executive director of the festival.
Prakash John has played bass in some great bands over the years. In his early days in Toronto, he played with Bush and Mandala before graduating to George Clinton’s Parliament/Funkadelic bands.
